Sharon Lanette Harshbarger Hicks, of Boise, Idaho, died unexpectedly at St. Lukes hospital in Boise on June 29, 2022, at the age of 66. Sharon is survived by her husband of 27 years, Michael Hicks; her sisters, Gay Thompson (Leonard), and Joy Frazier (Mike); her nieces and nephews Karis, Lauren and Nick Thompson and Nathan Frazier; and her stepson Matthew Hicks (Jamie) and their children Kylie, Madison and Brady. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Marjorie Harshbarger. Sharon was born to Bill and Marjorie Harshbarger on December 22, 1955, in Twin Falls, ID. She was joined by her twin sisters, Gay and Joy, in 1959, and they enjoyed an idyllic childhood growing up in the Magic Valley. The family enjoyed annual family vacations and the Harshbarger girls were especially fond of visiting Red Fish Lake each summer and baking cherry pies in the lodge with their Uncle Art. Sharon and her sisters grew up participating in 4H Club and they loved knitting sweaters. Sharon graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1974 and attended classes at the College of Southern Idaho. She later moved and attended college in Sparks, Nevada, and Idaho Falls before settling down in Boise, Idaho, and going to work for Mountain Bell (Qwest) in 1978 as a customer service representative. In 1985, Sharon was hired as a multi-media telephone directory advertising sales consultant for Dex Media. For the next 21 years, Sharon exceled at initiating telephone and internet listing sales and servicing for local business. She managed the yellow pages advertising and listings for hundreds of companies and continually demonstrated her excellent customer service and technical skills. She was known as goal-driven, enthusiastic worker who was especially loyal to her customers and employer. Sharon received numerous awards during her career including being a Dex company Customer Service award winner (1995), a 12-time Dex Vice-President award winner and a 3-time President’s Circle winner in 1985, 1992 and 1993. In 1992, Sharon met Michael Hicks and the couple began dating. They loved traveling on Sharon’s company trips and they shared lasting memories touring Hawaii and New York City. The couple married on June 17, 1995, surrounded by their family and friends. They moved into their current home in 1998 and it was their sanctuary from the rest of the world. Over the past 30 years, Sharon and Michael raised six dogs including Jed, the little Terrier-Mix; and German Shepherds Tanner, Max, McKenna, Caesar and Lady. They loved to take their dogs on short trips in Idaho’s wilderness. They particularly enjoyed staying in McCall and boating at Red Fish Lake and enjoying each other’s company while playing with their dogs. Sharon retired in 2006 and she enjoyed an active life socializing with her friends and family. Sharon loved talking for hours on the phone with her sister , Gay, each Saturday morning and she would look forward to the call all week. She loved decorating her home for Christmas and hosting family for special occasions. Sharon exemplified the best qualities of her parents. She inherited her mother’s style, grace and compassion and she received her father’s work ethic, honesty and tenacity. Sharon’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s Meridian for the excellent care they provided for Sharon during her stay. We would also like to personally thank Mr. Mike Parke for his outstanding effort and assistance in guiding us through this time. Mr. Parke was a life-long friend of Sharon and the Harshbarger family and the advice and compassion he has imparted to us will be forever appreciated. A funeral service for Sharon will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Twin Falls. A luncheon will be hosted by the family at Parke’s funeral home immediately after the service.
