In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Twin Falls Animal Shelter or the Moose Jaw Humane Society, in Joe’s name would be greatly appreciated.

Here in this shop, here on this farm, is where Joe loved to be. Anywhere there was land to cultivate and grow a crop was where he would be in his realm.  A man with a love of the land.  Joe had pride in every crop – and a belief and faith that each year would provide – even if, it was just a lesson! Working and farming were Joe’s hobbies.

This shop is symbolic of Joe and a testament to him.  Built with his own hands – it stands strong.  A job well done! Joe’s work and life were jobs well done!  As you look around you see a few scuffs and a few patch jobs, so was Joe’s life.  But this shop is still here to tell the story of the man who built it. Integrity was Joe’s middle name and he expected the same in return.  Loyal to family and friends. Perhaps some would say opinionated, but you always knew where you stood with Joe. Yet there is a tender heart that shared his breakfast with any dog that happened to be sitting close by. “We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.”  Well more than once someone has said they would come back as Joe’s dog.

Think of Joe with that twinkle in the eye and a quick, wicked sense of humor and if you knew Joe, you knew “Joe-isums”.  Those witty out of the blue “Joe-isums” - “she was so tall she could go goose hunting with a rake”, “handier than a button on the outhouse door” and of course  “ so slow they couldn’t pour it out of a boot with directions on the heel”.  These were said with a dead pan, matter of a fact looks, but then the rumble of a laugh started down deep and worked its way up to form that twinkle.

The family business of Curry Grain and Life in Idaho stretched out to Canada in 1994 when Joe and brother, Jon travelled north to Saskatchewan.  There Joe started another legacy – and introduced dry beans to the farmers there.  Although Joe became a dual Citizen in 2016 he was still known throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta as “Idaho Joe”, Joe was the go-to guy for his expertise and anything bean related. Charming, dynamic, larger than life - Joe left a lasting impression.

In 2017, the crowning accomplishment was completing the harvest (in good quality, he would add) of 10,000 acres of dry beans.  Joe was proud of this and the men he worked with throughout these years.

The greatest joy for Joe was a family gathering – a good meal and catching up on everyone’s lives. Joe adored each brother and sister and each moment spent with them.  Joe knew the reality was that the best legacy of all are his children and their children and the generations that will follow and that they too have a deep love for family.  Through love and marriage Joe had five children. Lisa, Kellie, Joey and with marriage in 2001 to Terry -  Noel and Danielle.  Know that Joe loved you all deeply and was so proud of each of you. Proud and amazed by your strengths and the families and lives you are building. Through the years there might have been some grumbling about attending another music recital, science fair, graduation or hockey game, but he always enjoyed that time.  And pictures were always required if he couldn’t make it in person.   Joe considered reaping the rewards of his hard work was time spent with family and friends.  Nothing but pure enjoyment came from trips to Mexico when family and friends could join.  Joe found that a day snow machining at Stanley, Yellowstone, or the South Hills was a day with laughs and snacks in the warmers.

Yet at the same time a phone call just to say hi and ask how his day was going, meant so very much. It was something so treasured by Joe that he would stop everything to appreciate it.  Even though often thousands of miles away, Joe  united friends and family.

As years pass there are Grandchildren.  Although Joe definitely wasn’t the gooey mushy type, those little ones gravitated to Grandpa’s lap and he truly loved every moment. Blessed to also watch grandchildren grow into adults and have great grandchildren – know your Grandpa was very proud of your accomplishments. What a wonderful beautiful life.
