Stanley Hammond was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. On Friday December 25, 2020 he passed away in his home after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born to Tennis and Martha Hammond on February 25, 1937. His presence filled a room, and his passing will leave a profound emptiness in our lives. Stan’s Christlike love for those around him was abundantly clear in his service for his fellow man. As a home teacher and elders quorum leader he went above and beyond for the members of his ward. It was not uncommon for his weekends to be filled moving a new family, driving someone to and from their appointments, or mowing a neighbor's yard. He particularly loved little children, and was often a favorite among his nieces and nephews. He reveled in time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We all have stories of time spent with him, usually somewhere out in the mountains with a fishing pole. His passion for fishing was truly unmatched. Often people would ask what brought him to Twin Falls, and the answer: fishing. He loved that he could turn down his road, and drive all the way to his favorite fishing holes in Jackpot or Wells. He moved for the trout. In recent years his fishing had become so prolific, that he had to purchase not one, but two extra freezers in order to hold all of his daily catches. As visitors in his home, you could tell when the freezers had become full, because trout would be served for every meal until there was enough room in the freezer for him to return to fishing. Scrambled eggs and trout was not a particular favorite of the family. Stan's legacy of service began young, at 17 years old he joined the Marine Corps, and was stationed in Okinawa Japan. Upon his release from the military, he served an LDS mission in the Northeast States and Territories, spending most of his time in Winnipeg, Canada. Just like us all, he had trials and temptations he had to endure; however, he had a profound understanding of the power of grace. He understood that there was no point too far from the infinite light of Christ’s mercy. In recent years he dedicated himself to service in the temple, going every day sometimes 3 or 4 times, and encouraging others to join him. He accomplished an extraordinary amount of temple work for deceased relatives of families in his ward. We know that those people whose work he has done are thrilled to be meeting him in Heaven right now, and are thanking him for his selfless service. He saw the significance of the gospel in his own life, and wished for everyone to feel the same joy that it brought him. In his last months, and even moments, he spent most of his time listening to conference addresses and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He was an incredible example of Christlike love and service to everyone around him, and he will be greatly missed. Stan is survived by his wife, Dorinda, sisters: Bonnie (Vern) Lee, Gwen Christenson, and Diane Toole, children: Darrell (Debi) Hammond, Susan (John) Simpson, Cathy (Rick) Barnhill, and Jamie Poulton, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Tennis and Martha, step-father Grant Roper, first wife Sharon Hammond, and siblings Shirley Wright, Don Hammond, Lee Hammond, and Jay Hammond.
