Virgil Edward Dodd, a World War II veteran passed away June 12, 2024 of old age. Virgil was the third of four sons born to Jacob Dawson Dodd and Grace Garfield in Ogden, Utah. He talked about his early youth living in Jarbidge, Nevada where his father and grandfather were freighters. The family eventually moved to Bountiful, Utah where he attended Bountiful Junior High and Davis High School. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, his older brothers joined the military. Because Virgil was under age, he talked his father into providing his signature so that Virgil could join the US Navy. Virgil served through out the south pacific.

After the war, Virgil was discharged on January 14, 1948. After a short time living with his parents, he moved to California where he obtained employment with Firestone Corporation. He remained with Firestone until his retirement at which time, he purchased a home with his wife Mona Annis in Murphy Hot Springs, Idaho. After some years, Mona passed away.

Later Virgil met and married Mona Timpson. He and Mona were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They both served as temple workers in the Boise Temple until the Twin Falls temple was dedicated at which time they worked in that temple. Eventually both of their heath necessitated the move to the Canyons Retirement Center. Mona preceded Virgil in death.

Virgil has a son, Edward Vincent who expresses his deep appreciation to the Canyons staff, Hospice doctors and nurses, and Jolene Jensen who loving cared for Virgil. Thanks to Kelley Timpson who took care of Virgil’s financial support.
