William (Bill) Raymond Carder, 79, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Cassia Regional Hospital. William was born on April 4, 1941 in Kimberly, Idaho to Raymond and Betty Carder. After graduating from Twin Falls High School in 1960, William enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served for 11 years, including a tour in VietNam. During his time in the USMC he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Republic of VietNam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Expert Rifle Badge, and Sharpshooter Pistol Badge. William also served three years in the Army National Guard. On September 22, 1964 William married the love of his life, Judy Bjornson, in Elko, NV. After William’s discharge from the Marine Corps, he and Judy moved to Burley, ID where they made their home. William had so much love and admiration for Judy and made sure that she knew that on a daily basis. They spent 56 years loving each other and the beautiful life that they made together. William had a natural, God-given gift as an artist. Art was a passion in his life, which led him to pursue his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Idaho State University. Following his graduation in 1976, William was able to combine his love of art, history, and archeology by becoming a curator at the Herrett Museum in Twin Falls, where he would meticulously replicate artifacts of Indigenous cultures. In 1981, William found his true calling when he became the Art Instructor at Burley High School. He was truly admired by his students for his talents and for his ability to relate to them. The connections he made with his students resulted with many following their dreams to be artists or teachers. During his time at BHS, William also was on the coaching staff for Football and Track and Field. He retired from teaching in 2003. William had a love and vast knowledge of history and took great interest in passing that knowledge on to his grandchildren. He enjoyed road trips across America, visiting important historical places. He also participated in Civil War Reenactments across the country, usually with at least one grandchild tagging along. He truly inspired generations to follow the passions that he had developed throughout his life. William is survived by his lovely bride, Judy, children, Lori (Mark) Hagen, April (Lynn) Culley, Kimberlee Leedom, and Jacob Carder, his sister, Carole Calton, 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
