Kyle Thomas Harshbarger, 80, passed away at his home in Twin Falls on January 25, 2024, and is now in the arms of his Savior.
Kyle was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Joseph and Zoe (Durfee) Harshbarger. The third of five children, he lived in Buhl and Twin Falls, graduating from Twin Falls High School in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving 4 years in New York, Japan, and Nebraska, and earning an honorable discharge in 1965.
While visiting a friend in Des Moines, Iowa, he met Brenda Kaye Wagner, and fell in love with both her and her red Volkswagen Beetle. The couple married in Las Vegas in December 1965, and settled in Santa Monica, California, for several years. In 1969, Kyle and Brenda moved to Twin Falls, welcoming son Michael in 1970 and daughter Helen in 1974. Kyle took ownership of Boster Key Shop on Main Street which he later renamed Kyle’s Keys. He retired from locksmith work in 2008 after 39 years of self employment.
In retirement, Kyle volunteered at the Twin Falls Public Library, enjoyed meals with friends at Addison West Restaurant and Norm’s Cafe, and relished any opportunity to speak with someone in Spanish or Russian. He and Brenda traveled several times to the Oregon Coast and splurged on an East Coast tour of Pennsylvania, New York and Washington, D.C. In his most recent years, Kyle took great joy in designing and building multiple projects in his backyard workshop, creating a haven for birds and squirrels to rest, eat, and nest.
Kyle was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kirk, and sisters Jolene Reed and Rona Ariel. He is survived by his wife Brenda, son Mike (Tina) Harshbarger of Moscow, ID, daughter Helen (Carlos) Santos of Twin Falls, granddaughters Cora Carpenter and Nichelle Veien, grandson Miguel Santos, great granddaughter Ellie Carpenter, and sister Jeane Newman.
Kyle’s family extend their deepest thanks to St. Luke’s Hospice.
Kyle was always asking “You got a joke for me?” In his honor, tell someone a joke today. He would love that.
