On November 2nd, at the age of 68, Steven Rich Hadley peacefully let go of the pain and worry of this life, surrounded by those who loved him. He will be remembered as a grumpy old man who loved just about everybody. Steve was born June 9, 1953 in Twin Falls to Theo and Marguerite Hadley. He graduated from Valley High School, received postsecondary education in mechanics and welding, the went to work on the family farm, starting a fulfilling farming career. A beautiful girl in a tractor caught his eye, and he married Patsy Atkinson on September 14, 1975; they had two sons.
He gained and offered farming expertise across the valley. Steve worked for his father-in-law then started his own hauling business for hay, potatoes, and beets for local farmers. He went on to Mecham Farms and then Standlee Hay where he was a manager. In 2011, he and Pat relocated to Arco when Standlee purchased new property that needed the 110% only Steve could give to make it thrive. It was his final and greatest project, and Arco was one of his favorite places because of the people and the community. He “retired” in 2020 but people like him never really retire. Dozens of people will tell you they learned all they know from him, but he’ll tell you not to believe a word of it.
He was an avid square dance caller, building scores of meaningful friendships lasting many years.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and an infant older brother. He is survived by his wife, Pat; sons Brian (Jessie) and Luke (Janaye); seven grandchildren; father-in-law; and many unofficially adopted loved ones (you know who you are).
Steve is now walking the fields with his long-time canine companion, Hazel, and continuing to plant seeds and talking things into growing that no one else could. In addition those wishing to share memories and condolences on Steve’s page may do so at www.magicvalleyfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home.
